When you tell many people you will be visiting Mexico City they will say, please don’t go, it’s unsafe! Best tip we could give you… Forget about what they said! Mexico City is a perfectly safe city to visit and we felt like so, although there’s some safety tips you should put into consideration.
Avoid the metro late at night. Keep your phone and valuables tucked away. Walk with purpose — and don’t flash expensive stuff. That said, we felt safe the entire time as long as we followed local advice and trusted our instincts.
👍 The Good & 👎 The Not-So-Good
The Good:
- So much to see, do, and eat
- Warm and welcoming locals
- Excellent public transport
- Super affordable
- Vibrant energy day and night
The Not-So-Good:
- Loud, busy, and overwhelming at times
- Traffic jams are common
- The infrastructure can feel a bit rough around the edges
- Tourists often get stared at (especially if you visibly look foreign), but it’s usually harmless curiosity
