Avoid the metro late at night. Keep your phone and valuables tucked away. Walk with purpose — and don’t flash expensive stuff. That said, we felt safe the entire time as long as we followed local advice and trusted our instincts.

The Good:

• So much to see, do, and eat
• Warm and welcoming locals
• Excellent public transport
• Super affordable
• Vibrant energy day and night

The Not-So-Good:

• Loud, busy, and overwhelming at times
• Traffic jams are common

• Tourists often get stared at (especially if you visibly look foreign), but it’s usually harmless curiosity
• Prices for tourists tend to be higher, bartering is quite common here, do it!
